Due to their compact design and cost effectiveness, thermodynamic steam trap is widely used in applications where the condensate must be removed immediately from steam lines and steam equipment. They discharge he condensate near the saturation temperature. The traps may operate up to a back pressure of 80% of the inlet pressure, but for smooth operation it is recommended that the back pressure does not exceed 50% of the inlet pressure. Thermodynamic steam trap discharges the condensate intermittently.
In general, maintenance of a thermodynamic steam trap is easy as the only moving part is the disc. It can be easily replaced by removing the top cap.
On startup, incoming pressure causes the disc to rise (open) to release cold condensate and air. As the hot condensate enters, flash steam will create a low pressure area under the disc and high pressure above the disc, causing the disc to drop (close). As the amount of condensate increases, the flash steam condenses and this causes the disc to rise (open) again.
All steam traps are equipped with a hardened stainless steel disc and seat. After the lapping process all the discs surfaces are controlled individually before releasing them for use in steam traps.
