Description
BROEN-LAB recessed emergency showers sit inside the wall or ceiling rather than on it, so the finished surface stays flat and cleanable. That matters in cleanrooms, in pharmaceutical and biotechnology suites, and in any finished interior where exposed pipework and a projecting shower head are unacceptable — either because they collect dirt or because they simply cannot be cleaned to the standard the room is validated against. Techmatic Controls supplies the BROEN-LAB range in Singapore for laboratories, pharmaceutical and biotechnology plants, chemical process areas and QC facilities.
Wall-recessed eye and body showers
A recessed eye and body shower puts both functions behind a flush panel. The unit is concealed until it is needed, then deployed from the recess, so the casualty gets both eye flushing and body drenching from one position without the room carrying a permanent projection.
A wall-recessed eye shower on its own is available where an emergency shower is already provided nearby, or where the position only ever needs eye flushing.
Recessed cabinets and hand activators
The cabinet and hand activator for a body shower is the recessed control point: the activation is behind a flush panel, with the shower outlet installed separately in the wall or ceiling. This is the arrangement to use where the shower has to be operated from inside a clean space while the pipework and outlet sit outside it.
Body shower outlets
Where the shower is plumbed within the building fabric, only the outlet needs to show. Several outlet arrangements are available:
- Ceiling mounted — the standard arrangement for recessed installations, in several variants.
- Ceiling mounted, concealed — for the flattest possible ceiling line.
- Wall mounted — where the supply runs in the wall rather than the ceiling void.
Outlets are offered in a standard finish, in stainless steel, and in an anti-corrosive finish for aggressive chemical atmospheres.
Materials and finish
Recessed units and panels are available painted or in stainless steel. Stainless steel is the usual specification for cleanrooms and washdown areas, where the panel is wiped down as part of routine cleaning and a painted finish would not survive the regime. The anti-corrosive outlet option covers positions exposed to acids, solvents or salt-laden air.

Item numbers, flow rates and connection sizes are confirmed against your layout. Send us the room plan, the ceiling or wall build-up and the chemicals handled and we will mark up the units required at each position.
Where recessed units are specified
- Cleanrooms and controlled environments, where a flush surface is a cleanability requirement
- Pharmaceutical and biotechnology suites subject to routine wipe-down and validation
- Finished laboratory interiors where exposed pipework is not acceptable visually
- Corridors and circulation areas where a projecting unit would be an obstruction
- Positions where the activation point and the shower outlet have to be in different places
Planning a recessed installation
Recessed units have to be coordinated earlier than surface-mounted ones, because the recess, the pipe route and the ceiling void depth all have to be agreed before the wall or ceiling is closed. Check the available depth behind the finished surface against the unit, confirm the supply route and isolation point remain accessible for testing, and settle the drainage arrangement below the unit at the same time.
Access for the weekly or monthly activation test is the item most often overlooked. Decide at design stage how the unit will be tested and where the water will go, rather than discovering it after handover. Where the installation has to demonstrate compliance with a particular emergency shower standard, confirm the performance figures for the specific model against the manufacturer’s certification before ordering.
