Description
BROEN-LAB indoor emergency showers give a worker exposed to a chemical splash somewhere to go within seconds of the exposure. The range covers combination showers that drench the body and flush the eyes from one unit, and body showers for areas already served by a separate eye wash station. Techmatic Controls supplies the BROEN-LAB range in Singapore for laboratories, pharmaceutical and biotechnology plants, chemical process areas and QC facilities.
Combination showers
A combination shower puts the body shower and the eye wash on one unit, so a casualty who has taken a splash to the face and the torso is treated at a single position rather than moving between two. Two eye wash arrangements are offered:
- With bowl — a fixed eye wash bowl beneath the body shower, operated hands-free once activated, leaving both hands free to hold the eyelids open.
- With hand-held eye shower — a hose-mounted eye shower that can be directed at either eye, at the face, or at a casualty who is seated or on the floor.
Both arrangements are available freestanding, for open floor areas and the middle of a laboratory, or wall mounted where floor space is tight. A disability-friendly freestanding combination shower with bowl is available where the unit has to be reachable from a wheelchair.
Body showers
Where an eye wash station is already provided nearby, a body shower on its own is often the right answer. Mounting arrangements cover the situations that actually arise on site:
- Ceiling mounted — including versions with ceiling flanges and a long flange, for finished ceilings and for varying void depths.
- Wall mounted — the standard arrangement, with a G3/4 inch male connection version among the options.
- Wall mounted above door — positioned over an exit so a casualty leaving the room passes directly under the shower.
- For exposed pipework — for plant rooms and process areas where services run on the surface rather than concealed.
Materials and finish
Units are offered in a painted finish, in stainless steel, and in stainless steel 316L. The 316L option is the one to specify for aggressive chemical atmospheres, for washdown areas, and for pharmaceutical and cleanroom environments where the finish has to survive routine cleaning without corroding.

Item numbers, flow rates and connection sizes are confirmed against your layout. Send us the room plan and the chemicals handled and we will mark up the units required at each position.
Positioning and selection
Two questions decide most of the specification. First, does the position need eye flushing as well as body drenching — a combination shower if yes, a body shower if an eye wash station already covers it. Second, is the position reachable within the travel distance your risk assessment allows, from every place a splash could occur.
Beyond that, check the water supply available at the position against the unit’s flow requirement, the finish against the chemicals and cleaning regime, and the drainage and floor arrangement below the unit. Where the installation has to demonstrate compliance with a particular emergency shower standard, confirm the performance figures for the specific model against the manufacturer’s certification before ordering.
