Description
BROEN-LAB eye wash stations and eye showers flush a chemical splash out of the eyes in the seconds that decide whether the injury is temporary or permanent. The range covers hand-held units that can be directed where they are needed, fixed eye showers with a bowl, and swing-down units that fold away when the bench is in normal use. Techmatic Controls supplies the BROEN-LAB range in Singapore for laboratories, pharmaceutical and biotechnology plants, chemical process areas and QC facilities.
Hand-held eye showers
A hand-held eye shower is mounted on a hose, so it can be brought to the casualty rather than the other way round. That matters when someone is seated, has been helped to the floor, or has taken the splash to one eye and needs the stream directed rather than flooded across the whole face.
- Twin 45° heads — flushes both eyes simultaneously, the usual choice where a splash is likely to hit both.
- Single 45° head — for directed flushing of one eye, the face, or a specific area.
Both head arrangements are available bench mounted, at the point of work, and wall mounted where the bench has to stay clear.
Eye showers with bowl
A bowl-type eye shower gives hands-free flushing once activated, which leaves both of the casualty’s hands free to hold the eyelids open — the single most important thing a person can do during a flush, and the thing they are least able to do while also holding a hose. Wall-mounted versions are standard.
An anti-corrosive version is available for areas where acids, solvents or salt-laden atmospheres would attack a standard finish. Specify it where the unit will sit unused for long periods in an aggressive atmosphere, since a corroded eye wash is a failed eye wash.
Swing-down eye showers
Swing-down units fold out of the way when not in use and drop into position when activated. They suit crowded benches and sinks where a fixed unit would be in the way during normal work — and a unit that is in the way is a unit that gets removed.
Both wall-mounted and bench-mounted swing-down versions are available.

Item numbers, flow rates and connection sizes are confirmed against your layout. Send us the bench plan and the chemicals handled and we will mark up the units required at each position.
Positioning and selection
Position first: an eye wash has to be reachable, with the eyes shut, from anywhere a splash can occur — which in practice means adjacent to the hazard rather than at the room entrance. Then decide between hands-free and hand-held. A bowl unit is better for the casualty who is alone; a hand-held unit is better where a colleague will assist, and better for a casualty who cannot stand.
After that, check the water supply and temperature at the position, the finish against the chemicals present, and whether the unit will obstruct normal bench work — the last of these is what decides between a fixed and a swing-down unit. Where the installation has to demonstrate compliance with a particular eye wash standard, confirm the performance figures for the specific model against the manufacturer’s certification before ordering.
